Tom breaks the record for best time
up Lookout Mountain in Golden, Colorado

| Before hosting the
grand opening of the new Bicycle Village store in Littleton, Colorado,
Tom took part in the Oredigger Classic — a
time trial up Lookout Mountain in Golden. Tom wanted to get in some high-wattage
work and bag another hill climb record to add to the list. But could he
do it considering the distance of only 4.3 miles and just 5 to 6 percent
average gradient? With skinsuit on and a windless 60 degrees, Tom beat
the old record by almost a minute. His time was 16:02! |

Not your typical Starting-House.
The riders started up the hill a bit, but organizers
had Tom start down next to the "Pillars" to make his time official.
This is where the Lookout Mountain road races have started
in the past.

Tom said he wanted to start "Fast" not "Hard"....whatever — he
was flying from the get-go.

 |
Halfway up the climb, Tom started to put
down the hammer.

 |
Eight percent gradient, 16mph, 425 watts....
'Bout right.

 |
The last bend and Tom screams home in 16:02
to take another hill climb record.

After the race, Tom took time out to have
his picture taken with fans and teams.
Here he is with the Denver
University Cycling Team.
